SMCC softball finds its saving Faith in Dean

Faith Dean pitches for St. Mary Catholic Central against Flat Rock Friday. Dean tossed a one-hitter and drove in the only run of the game as SMCC won 1-0.

Faith Dean gave St. Mary Catholic Central a little bit of everything Friday in a 1-0 victory over Flat Rock.

Dean pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts over seven innings and delivered the game-winning RBI to give the Kestrels a victory over a Rams’ team that came into the night tied for first in the Huron League.

“Faith Dean was the star of the show,” SMCC coach Danielle Williams said. “Not only did she throw the game of her life, she hit the game winning RBI.

“Our girls played solid defense, made some great plays. Our communication was key today. Our offense started off popping out. We talked about adjustments we needed to make and the girls made it happen.”

Dean hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to drive home Jenna Kapp and break a scoreless tie.

Matajia Cerroni had the lone hit for Flat Rock. Kayla Giroux took the tough-luck loss, allowing one run on three hits and striking out five over six innings.
