ELKINS — Several area players and coaches will take part in the North-South Softball Classic to be held June 9 at Buffalo High School.

The four teams competing will be broken down into Region 1, Region 2, Region 3 and Region 4.

Elkins High School’s Katelynn Stone, Philip Barbour’s Sara Simon, Lilley Criss and Hailee Poling, Tucker County’s Kristen Hicks and Mickala Taylor and Brooklynn Rohrbaugh of Class A state runner-up Petersburg will compete on the Region 2 squad.

Stone and Hicks have signed to play at West Virginia Wesleyan, while Simon will suit up for West Liberty

The remainder of the Region 1 team includes Grayson Buckner and Caroline Woody of five-time Class AA state champion Herbert Hoover, Robert C. Byrd’s Fran Alvaro, Lewis County’s Abby Hartley, Liberty’s Emma Kyle and Lacie Lewis of Class AAA state champion Jefferson.

Philip Barbour’s Rob Simon and Amanda McDaniel are part of the Region 2 coaching staff, along with RCB’s Mary Mayer.

Coach Simon led the Lady Colts to a berth in the regional finals this past spring.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Robin Ball is a member of the Region 1 team, while the Lady Bucs’ Levi Bender, Tiffany Board and Jordan Hart will join Ritchie County’s Dave Mossor and Bill Mossor on the coaching staff.

Region 1 will face Region 2 at 11 a.m. on June 9, with Region 3 meeting Region 4 in the 9 a.m. contest.

The losers of those games and the winners of the two matchups face off in the afternoon after the awards ceremony.
