Millington edged Swan Valley, claiming the Division 3 boys golf regional title Friday at Verona Hills Golf Club in Bad Axe.
The Cardinals finished with 322 strokes, led by medalist Bryce Martin. The freshman shot a 75 to edge Millington teammate Kaden Wisenbach, who finished second with a 76. Also scoring for the Cardinals were Drew Murry with an 84 and Issac Slough with an 87.
Swan Valley finished second, three strokes behind the Cardinals with a 325. Junior Ashton DiBlasi led the Vikings with a 77. Swan Valley placed four golfers in the Top 10, with sixth-place John McCarthy (82). Cameron Vacik and Alexander Galsterer tied for ninth with 83s.
Sandusky also qualified for the state meet, finishing second with a 347. Individual qualifiers included Essexville Garber’s Owen Halstead (81), Frankenmuth’s Eric Nielsen (82) and Hemlock’s Carson Countegan (82).
At the Division 2 meet at The Emerald at St. Johns, Flint Powers won the regional title with a 303, led by medalist Robert Burns with a 69. Alma junior Jeffrey Sager qualified as an individual with a 76.
- Brooklyn Compau threw a two-hit shutout, her 10th of the season, striking out 16 in a 13-0 win over Cass City. Compau reached 300 strikeouts with the 16-strikeout effort. Maggie Thiel led the offense with three hits, two runs and two stolen bases, while Tiffany Keller, Faith Breinager, Compau and Emily Warden had two hits each for the Eagles, who finish the season at 33-4.
- Midland High swept New Lothrop, 4-2 and 17-1. Rachel Mecca got the win in the first game, giving up two runs on three hits, striking out four. Addie Edwards led Midland with two hits. In the second game, Midland scored nine runs in the second inning. Grace Schloop earned the win, giving up one run on two hits in four innings. Emersen Hoon led the Midland offense with three hits.
- Breckenridge swept Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart to claim the Mid-State Activities Conference with a 15-1 conference record, 21-4 overall. Cramer Laurenz and Maxx Eastman held Sacred Hear to three hits in a 4-3 win in the opener. Landen Aldrich and Jace Horman had two hits each for the Huskies. Jacob Gillis improved to 7-0 with a 7-5 Breckenridge in the second game, with Eastman getting the save. Aldrich and Horman had two hits each, with Laurenz hitting a three-run homer.
